The week after Labor Day means it is time to get back to work.
My baby just started her senior year in college (insert all the big eyed, shocked emoji faces here,) so 2017 will likely mark our final back to school celebrations. This is the last year I can use the impending beginning of a new school year as an excuse to slack off in August, squeezing every last drop out of those last few weeks of summer.
The rhythms of the school calendar have always impacted my perception that a new year begins each September. Although it is often bittersweet, I find the return to a more structured schedule each fall to be grounding, a reminder to dig in and return to the practices that help me live a life connected to my values. The first step is evaluating where I am and where I want to be.
I love my work, but I find I often do the easier things on my to-do list first and put off until later the projects that will require more time and energy. Part of growing my coaching business and letting people know about my book and retreats requires posting regularly on this blog in order to invite more people into our community. (And yes, I did just awkwardly avoid using the word marketing for some reason I will likely need to analyze later.) Yet, in the month of August, I posted only twice.
Does the way I spend my hours match what I say is important to me? Click To TweetMy work matters to me. I believe with all my heart in the Being Brave message and the work I do with my coaching clients. I am working hard to become a better coach and to get my book ready to be launched. I come alive when I talk about living the powerful, brave life God is dreaming for each of us. This is both fun AND work!
So it is time to get back to work here in this space and build our brave community. Are you in? Here are a few things coming up:
- The Being Brave Launch Team will begin October 23rd. Those chosen to be on the launch team will get an advanced reader copy of Being Brave and must be willing to let people know about the book through social media and reader reviews. If you want to apply to be on the Launch Team, you must join my mailing list (see the sign up on the right) so you will know when the launch team application goes up in the next few weeks.
- I am planning another Being Brave retreat for early November. Again, information and details will go out through my mailing list, so please sign up, if you aren’t already on the list.
What work do you need to get back to this fall? When you look at the way you spend your hours, does it match what you say is important to you? If not, what are you going to do different?
Linking up with my friends at Five Minute Friday again this week. As you may have guessed, this week’s word is WORK.
I also have a tendency to do the easy tasks and put off the ones I’m going to find challenging, but I usually find they’re not so bad once I get started, or at least I feel better because I’ve made some progress! I’m sure getting a book ready to launch is a lot of work, but worth the effort. It sounds great- look forward to hearing more! Visiting from FMF #35.
Hi Kelly! I so hear where you’re coming from. It’s so easy to become overwhelmed when the todo list is long, and the work seems daunting. As someone who recently published her first book, I can also say that the daunting feeling comes and goes. Some days, I feel strong and powerful, and I courageously tackle the marketing. Other days, the courage wanes and the tasks become too heavy. Truth is, art is vulnerable… and we will always have to fight the urge to shrink back.
So fight, girl! You can do this! I believe in you!
