I really enjoyed reading this article about Billy Graham. I was particularly struck by the parts of the article that talked about how his faith and theology have grown and changed over his years of ministry…to me, another confirmation that our relationship with God is a journey and a process, not a destination or a one-time event. I was also touched by his humility…his admission that there are some things we may just not understand this side of heaven. The text of the sermon we heard last night at church (Philippians 3:12-14 – The Message version) speaks to the ongoing, not-quite-there-yet nature of our journey:
12-14I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
I encourage you to read the article about Rev. Graham…a life lived with his eye on the goal; a personal relationship with the God who loves us.
