Early Voting starts TODAY, Virginia! And here are two Gun Sense champions you can vote for like I did. So pleased to have the opportunity to talk to my representatives in Washington this morning, Congressman Don Beyer @donbeyerva and Senator Mark Warner @markwarnerva and thank them for their advocacy on gun violence prevention and SO many other issues- from this nonsense with the Kennedy Center, to the war in Iran that is making everything more expensive, to the need to regulate AI. Thrilled to cast my vote for them to return to DC with hopefully many more colleagues interested in putting up some guardrails on the “mad king.” Great to see some friends, my state reps @kirkmcpike and @ebpforva and feel the enthusiasm! If you are interested in helping elect more gun sense leaders, join us by texting ELECT to 644-33. And if you need to find out who the #gunsensecandidate is on your ballot, go to gunsensevoter.org @momsdemand @va_momsdemandaction #midterms #gunsensevoter #voteblue #stopthemadking

At DCA this morning getting ready to take a flight to NC and they just invited us to observe a moment of silence in memory of the 9/11 attack 25 years ago. Kind of eerie to be in an airport as I remember, like all of you, where I was on that day…how 37 year old Kelly experienced the unfolding horrors moment by moment. We all have our stories. Remembering those who still have that empty seat at their table and the helpers who ran toward the danger. May we never forget 💔♥️ #91101neverforget

Like many of you, I’ve spent the last couple of days “Dolly surfing” the internet. Tributes, memories, stories and performance videos from every era of her life. I’ve never known a Dolly free world and it just feels too damn soon. Like you, I’ve got a few favorite songs from her DECADES of music making, but I was really more a fan of the way she showed up in the world and the way she used her considerable influence to be a light. Generous, relentlessly kind, humble, funny, and strong. She never apologized for her ambition or her unique style and she never lost sight of where she came from. She lived her life with a heart of gratitude, love, acceptance, and grace. She never quit reaching back and pulling people up. Her faith was simple and looked like Jesus in a way that is sorely needed in our world. She just quietly did good, gave her money away, advocated for full inclusion, and did it all with a tremendous sense of humor. I loved her response to anyone who might think her joyful, optimistic heart and big hair made her a “dumb blonde.” She said that didn’t bother her because “I know I’m not dumb. And I also know I’m not blonde!” 😂 Same, Dolly, same! ♥️

My daughter Brooke gave me this tshirt a few years ago after we decided to name our new puppy Jolene after Dolly’s iconic song. When I introduce Jolene in our dog friendly walks through Old Town, people are delighted. “Jolene? Like the song?” “Yes! Because she’s a homewrecker.” Never fails to elicit a giggle- and often a few bars of the song that EVERYONE knows. Jolene knows the song by heart and wags her tail whenever people sing it to her.♥️

So here is to Dolly. I’d love to hear your favorite Dolly Parton song, quote, act of service or story. In my faith tradition, we often say of those who lived a life that exemplified all the best parts of what Jesus taught “well done, good and faithful servant.” I can’t think of any public person who deserves those words more. Gone too soon, but well done, good and faithful servant. I will always love you. #wwdd #dollyparton #jolene @jolenethecoton #welldonegoodandfaithfulservant
