With all that is going on in the world, is it even ok for us to talk about joy?
My newest offering, Cultivating, Celebrating, and Instigating Joy in Difficult Times, is a pandemic baby; born out of a collective need to find moments of joy even while we grieve the losses. In June of 2020, my community gathered online for the whole month to wrestle with questions about joy, and talk about what helps us tap into joy even while staying present in the suffering in the world around us. Ultimately, we recognized that joy is absolutely essential in developing resilience for the hard times. We decided choosing joy made all the difference. I developed this workshop to share what we learned.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu says it like this:
Discovering more joy does not save us from the inevitability of hardship and heartbreak. In fact, we may cry more easily, but we will laugh more easily too. Perhaps we are just more alive. Yet as we discover more joy, we can face suffering in a way that ennobles rather than embitters. We have hardship without becoming hard. We have heartbreak without becoming broken.
This two and 1/2-hour interactive event, including teaching, group activities and small group interaction, gives us tangible tools to discover and grow in our capacity to experience joy during difficult times. This program can be offered virtually by Zoom or adapted for an in-person format.
Choosing to cultivate, celebrate, and instigate joy in the midst of all that is broken in the world is a defiant act of worship.
Testimonial
What an incredible event! Kelly presented “Cultivating, Celebrating and Instigating Joy in Difficult Times” to a group of women at our church. Her organization of the material was easy to follow and the pace allowed for participants to reflect, ask questions, and take in new information. Kelly’s knowledge of the subject was current and relevant. The content was filled with inspiration, challenge, and encouragement. She brings a passion to this topic that is uplifting and contagious.
